Get started

This guide walks you through the basics of setting up Twist for the first time: install the app, create an installation, add your gateway and products, and start controlling them.

Step 1: Install the app

The Twist app is available for both iOS and Android, and a web portal is available in your browser.

  • iOS: download from the Apple App Store by searching for "TWIST".
  • Android: download from Google Play by searching for "TWIST".
  • Web portal: sign in from your browser for advanced configuration and larger views.
tip

Make sure you have a stable internet connection when you first launch the app.

Step 2: Create your account

When you open the app for the first time, you will see a sign-in screen. If you do not have an account yet, you can create one directly in the app or on the web portal.

Step 3: Create your first installation

An installation is where all your Twist products live—your home, a vacation property, or a business location.

  1. When prompted, choose to create your first installation.
  2. Give it a name (for example, "Home" or "Backyard").
  3. Set the location (use your device location or enter it manually).
  4. Confirm to create the installation.
tip

You can create multiple installations if you run Twist in more than one location.

Step 4: Add your gateway and products

Your gateway is the hub that connects your Twist products to the app.

  1. Open Add Products.
  2. Scan the QR code on a device, or let the gateway discover nearby powered devices.
  3. Follow the setup steps for the gateway (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) and for each product.
  4. Give each product a name you will recognize.
